Hello beautiful people. Welcome back to The Unsophisticated Investor. We’ve enjoyed bringing you news and insights from the world of finance and private markets for nearly 6 months now and we hope you’ve enjoyed it too. But this week we wanted to do something a little different and take the opportunity to tell you about PitchedIt.

Out of the process of building PitchedIt The Unsophisticated Investor was born to bring the topic of private market investments to more people like us. But in doing so, we’ve realised many of our subscribers might not be fully aware of what PitchedIt is and why it might be of interest to them too.

Simply put, if you’re interested in what we write then we think you’ll be interested in what we’re building!

PitchedIt is a private market investment platform for young professionals. So why are we building it?

In a world where a person's ability to achieve financial freedom is constantly overshadowed by unaffordable housing, job insecurity and inadequate retirement plans, millions of people are now regularly investing in order to secure their financial futures. Public markets (stocks, bonds, cash) have been democratised and investing is now part of mainstream culture. There are countless apps available on your smartphone that allow you to easily access investment opportunities in the public markets (it’s likely you have at least one on your phone right now).

And as investing popularity accelerates, and investors become more knowledgeable, they’re beginning to seek out potentially higher-yielding opportunities. Not to mention other macroeconomic shifts that are driving people to sure-up their finances. And with that, interest in private markets has grown rapidly. Unfortunately, due to knowledge, network, wealth and regulatory barriers, private markets remain a luxury exclusive to the ultra-wealthy.

I made my first investment at the age of 25 (10 years ago). I had been interested in investing and personal finance for years but had never gone deep enough to kick off the journey before then. It wasn’t as simple as it is today as there were very few access points compared to the array of easy to use apps like I mentioned. And while my immediate concerns as a 25 year old didn’t include job insecurity, buying a home or raising a family like they do today, I was at a point where I was starting to take notice of my future and the steps I needed to start taking in order to underpin my financial health.

Today's 25 year olds, I feel, are several steps ahead of the 25 year old I was. Investing is now more popular than ever, with retail investors pouring over $1.5b into the stock market every single day. And while I don’t consider 25 as being old for making my first investment, today roughly 50% of GenZ have made their first investment between the ages of 18-25. 25% of these before they even turn 18! With that type of head start, we can only assume future generations will be far more sophisticated when it comes to their finances and the decisions they make to create a successful future. And with that, will expect a lot more from the platforms they use.

PitchedIt isn’t just an investment platform. It’s an opportunity to join an exclusive community that you’ve been led to believe isn’t for you.

To get access to opportunities that have historically been reserved for the ultra-wealthy.

While the democratisation of public markets has been a great thing, it has resulted in clunky, convoluted applications with jam-packed interfaces and too many options. Very little separates the numerous investment platforms that are available today. It's 6 of one, half a dozen of another. And the few private markets platforms that do exist suffer from various barriers to entry - regulation, accreditation, high minimums and high complexity.

The mental barrier to investing in public markets has been removed for most people. It's common practice and no longer some scary thing. That's why platforms can get away with being so busy. Private market platforms won't get away with that. Certainly not in the early days. It needs to be simpler. Make it easy for users to take action and easy for them to learn. Remove what makes them fearful.

While diversification is critical to a well-balanced portfolio, committing to something you know little about is scary. That's why people shy away from making important decisions like investing. People feel safer when you simplify it for them and do the complicated work on their behalf.

PitchedIt removes that fear by acting as the customer's intelligent partner and aide; taking control and guiding them through the process. We show our users how and why we’re doing what we’re doing and ask for their consent during critical decisions, so they’re still holding the wheel while expanding their knowledge and confidence as they progress through their journey.

Unlike many clunky and convoluted public market platforms, we offer a simple and highly automated user experience that feels accessible and unintimidating. The PitchedIt platform is simple, thoughtful and clean. This creates a unique experience unlike what users have come to expect from other investment platforms.

It’s about telling a story people can connect with and that's where PitchedIt comes in. We’re building a platform for people like us - young professionals who are thinking about their future. People who want to take further action in building a balanced portfolio and who want to diversify by investing in potentially higher-yielding and uncorrelated asset classes. Asset classes that have historically been out of reach for us.

If that sounds like you then we’d love for you to join us - www.PitchedIt.co

The Unsophisticated Investor is brought to you by Scott & Rob, the founders of PitchedIt. We’re both sick of private markets being a playground exclusive to the ultra-wealthy so we started a company to challenge the status-quo. PitchedIt’s singular focus is to unlock private markets for Millennial and Gen Z retail investors and help them build wealth through the highest performing private market opportunities.
