A person pondering life during their Wednesday slump…

Wednesday slump; pondering life? We’ve got ya covered!

Making a return on your investments can take a long time. When we have so many other priorities to deal with, is it really worth the wait?

Remember when we were kids and you didn’t have a care in the world? Life was simple. We all wanted to grow up and now we wish we could go back! So, what is it about being an adult that seems to suck the life from people like Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat. My opinion…our lack of freedom.

We’re born into a world where we have little control. The global socio-economic systems have been carefully designed to keep the masses subservient to, and dependent upon, the global elite systems put in place long ago… (damn, that’s heavy). But think about it. It's expected of us to fall in line and follow the “path” - school, college, career etc. Work hard and become a cog in the machine.

The modern world is designed around money. It’s the currency for, well, everything. What would you do without it? How would you survive? “We would just grow our own food”, shout the composters in the back. Maybe. But how would you buy the land? And where would you sleep?

We’re sold a vision of life as a journey through education and into the workforce. Once there, we’re led to believe we should break our backs with effort. Loyal to companies that aren’t loyal to us. Placing work ahead of our friends and families because we feel the need to prove our worth through that promotion or that raise. An ongoing cycle. If you’re fortunate enough to find a great company you enjoy working for, great. But don’t let it become who you are! What are we really chasing anyway? Yes, for a lot of people, we have goals and dreams that might be tightly bound to our work. But how many of you really feel that way?

We like to believe our freedoms are worn away over time as we grow up but the reality is we never really had any. Most of us have been consciously or subconsciously shoehorned into a vision of how we’re supposed to live our life. Working hard but not really living. Eventually, we arrive at our retirement, in our mid-60s, ready to take our freedom back. Often too late to really enjoy it.

Some would argue the only thing money can’t buy is time. Which is only partially true. Our lives are finite and money can’t make you live forever. Not yet anyway. However,  money can be used to create freedom. But only if you’re thoughtful about it!

Hard work is important and having something you enjoy and are passionate about that pays your way is a luxury.

Work fills our most productive hours. We spend more time with our colleagues than we do with our partners and children. So when you think of why you should invest for your future, think of freedom. The time you might wrestle back from your work life. Not having to rely so heavily on your salary; being able to go on that holiday and buy that thing and spend more of your days doing the things that make you happy.

So yeah, accomplish your goals and achieve success in whatever it is you love. But when you’re sitting in work, thinking about why you should invest; think of working for your freedom and not just “The Man”.

Saudi Arabia’s $40 billion investment in AI

The kingdom is reportedly working with Andreessen Horowitz, a globally recognised VC firm, and other investors to create a mega sized AI fund.

So how do VCs spot a $1 billion company?

TLDR: Founder track record, market timing and size, a superior product to incumbents and rapid traction with a clear market need for the solution.

The Unsophisticated Investor is brought to you by Scott & Rob, the founders of PitchedIt. We were both sick of private markets being a playground exclusive to the ultra-wealthy. So… we started a company to challenge the status-quo. PitchedIt’s singular focus is to unlock private markets for Millennial and Gen Z retail investors and help them build wealth through the highest performing private market opportunities.
